How ISO 8601 numbers the weeks
ISO 8601 weeks run from Monday to Sunday. Week 1 is the week that holds the year's first Thursday, which is always the week that holds 4 January. The first and last week of a year can include days from the year next to it.

Which week numbering does the calendar use?
ISO 8601. Week 1 is the week that holds the year's first Thursday, so week 1 of 2027 starts on Monday 4 January 2027.
Does the week start on Monday or Sunday?
ISO weeks start on Monday, and so does the default layout. The calendar also comes in a Sunday-start layout. There, each row is numbered by the Monday after its Sunday, which is the ISO week of six of its seven days.
Why do some years have 53 weeks?
A year has 53 ISO weeks when it starts on a Thursday, or on a Wednesday in a leap year. Every other year has 52. 2027 has 52 ISO weeks, and the last one ends on Sunday 2 January 2028.
